CAMIC signs 3-year training agreement with Entry Point North
Entry Point North, a leading global ATS academy, has entered into a 3-year agreement with CAMIC, the Civil Aviation Management Institute of China, to deliver Training Management Programmes during 2014-2016.
As part of the long-term collaboration in aviation related training between the two organisations, the customised Training Management Programme from Entry Point North is designed to develop competencies of ATM chief instructors and to give them an insight into European training standards and methods. The training, which encompasses the latest industry trends within aviation, is based on international aviation training expertise and recognised modern training philosophy. Each year a group of six key selected Chinese training professionals will attend the extensive tailor-made training program of three months length.
“The
agreement on Training Management Programme endorses our long-term
cooperation with CAMIC and expresses a strong recognition of our high
quality training services. It is exceptionally rewarding for us to be an
active part of the rapid development and growth of air traffic services
in China – says Anne Kathrine Jensen, CEO of Entry Point North.
Signing
of the agreement: Gao Hongjiang, Vice President, CAMIC and Flemming
Eske Hansen, CFO and Strategy Director, Entry Point North
The
first Programme will start in late 2014 and will be delivered in the
academy’s modern training facilities in Malmoe and Budapest. Theoretical
classroom training will be combined with practical exercises, CBT,
Eurocontrol e-learning packages, study tours and visits to operational
units.
Entry Point North, one of the largest air traffic services academies globally, was selected by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in Abu Dhabi to provide an extensive ATSEP Training programme.
In February-March 2014 the training programme consisting of ATSEP Basic, ATSEP Shared and ATSEP SMC Qualification courses was delivered on-site in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre, by several Entry Point North instructors – experts in ATSEP and Human Factors. The training was compliant with the Eurocontrol Specifications for ATSEP training. The participants originated from various countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East and this resulted in a perfect learning environment of sharing best experiences.
“The international recognition of our high quality training services once again rewards us with a new client and a greater expansion into the Middle East" - says Anders Halskov-Jensen, Client Manager at Entry Point North. Entry North Point has also recently provided ATSEP training for participants coming from Hong Kong, Indonesia and Dubai as well as various countries across Europe.

Entry Point North opens a new ATS Academy in Ireland
On 2nd of January 2014 Entry Point North opened a new transnational academy in Ireland. The academy is a fully owned training subsidiary of Entry Point North. It will deliver all ATS training for the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) from its location in Ballycasey, Shannon, following a strategic agreement between the IAA and Entry Point North. As part of the agreement, the IAA has become a shareholder, thus securing a 25% ownership of Entry Point North on equal terms with Avinor, LFV and Naviair.
Entry Point North Ireland is staffed by experienced ATC personnel from both the IAA and Entry Point North and will deliver cost effective training programmes based on the proven Scandinavian training methodology and philosophy.
The establishment of Entry Point North Ireland provides mutual significant financial and cooperative benefits. While it lowers IAA capital investments through centralised and shared investment and development costs for training, it also affords Entry Point North a greater economy of scale together with in-depth knowledge of the COOPANS training and simulator system to benefit current and future partners.

“This is a unique ground breaking business relationship aligned with Single European Sky objectives. By becoming part of Entry Point North family, IAA will take on harmonized and standardized training standards at the same time reducing cost and improving quality of the training” – says Eamonn Brennan, Chief Executive of IAA.

Avinor selects Entry Point North for Tower Control Continuation TrainingDuring 2013-2014 all ATCOs working at 19 Avinor (Norwegian ANSP) Towers are receiving their continuation training on Entry Point North’s 360 degree state of the art simulators. The training is performed on replicas of the respective airport layouts including tower equipment and traffic complexity. To ensure that the training is performed cost effectively and without operational disruptions, exercises and schedules have been carefully outlined in close cooperation with Avinor.
This is a fully customised training solution for Avinor. All the airport layouts and exercises replicating local scenarios are produced by Entry Point North simulator systems experts. The design is based on large quantities of data, photographic images and information about the local traffic scenarios to be used in relevant exercises. After the airport layout and exercises are developed, they are reviewed and tested together with the operational ATCOs from the units.
The continuation training is very realistic. After just a few minutes in the simulator the controllers feel “like being at home” and are ready to start training for difficult operations, heavy traffic situations, new procedures - or whatever else is needed to train in this specific “Continuation Circle”.
This continuation training has already proved to be very successful. “Stavanger/Sola airport had to undergo major new construction during the summer resulting in closing part of one runway. So we used the simulation to prepare our ATCOs on new workflow, procedures and conflict points, which was a great help when the work actually started” – says Tor Fosse, the Head of Training at Stavanger/Sola.
Entry Point North has thirteen 3D tower simulators and offers its services to any ANSP requiring continuation training on a replica of a specific airport layout for refresher, conversion, emergency or any other type of training.

In October Entry Point North, one of the largest Air Traffic Service academies, delivered its first Pilot’s Guide to Air Traffic Control course. The course is specifically designed for pilots as a hands-on induction to air traffic control and the role of an air traffic controller. It gives the participants the opportunity to gain practical experience of working as an operational controller and focuses on improving day-to-day cooperation between pilots and controllers.
The course was delivered at Entry Point North’s academy in Malmö-Sturup for the chief instructors of Malmö Aviation, a regional airline. "It was interesting to see and try how the controllers work. The understanding about how the job is done and especially how the controllers communicate with each other was very enlightening" – says the course participant Mats Norgren, Captain / Instructor Crew training, Malmö Aviation.
“We are very happy to invite pilots to our academy with this new course. Every day pilots and controllers work very closely together, but the opportunities for pilots to get hands-on experience on ATC have not been many. With this new course we believe that the cooperation can be even better especially during stressful situations” – says Kerstin Sjöbeck, Director of Training and Operations at Entry Point North.

On-site Training using Mobile Simulation Trailer
Entry Point North, one of the largest Air Traffic Service (ATS) academies, is now offering on-site training using a specially equipped mobile simulation (MOS) trailer. During September and October up to 30 tower controllers from Aviation Capacity Resources AB (ACR) – a private air navigation service provider in Sweden - received emergency training provided in the mobile simulator that was transported and put into operation next to their tower units, Stockholm Västerås and Växjö.
“The mobile training solution obviously brings many advantages to our customers” – says Eva Håkansson, Client Manager at Entry Point North. “We can perform the training next to the workplace meaning that controllers do not need to travel, pay for hotel accommodation and be temporary relocated. This reduces the total training cost for the ANSP. We can work together to plan the training so, that it does not affect the daily working routine at the unit”.
The MOS trailer can have a tower or a radar simulator, 2 controller positions and 2 pseudo pilot positions. It can be deployed easily and quickly almost anywhere as it only needs somewhere to park, access to power and an internet connection. The MOS trailer is ideal for small or moderate sized aerodromes for ATC training, refresher and emergency training. The exercises can be designed simulating the local airport/airspace set-up to ensure the training is performed with a high level of realism. This also enables training to be more effective by simulating local traffic scenarios and/or unusual events that may only happen sporadically.
