COMAC - Successful factory acceptance test
Teleplatform and overhead cranes for C919 narrow body aircraft
COMAC visiting CTI Systems for factory acceptance testCOMAC, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd., headquartered in Shanghai, awarded CTI Systems with the delivery of four teleplatform units and four double girder crane bridges for the painting of the new COMAC C919 narrow body aircraft in COMAC’s new paint hangar. This is the first order that China’s main aircraft manufacturer placed with CTI Systems.
Since 2002 CTI Systems has been active in China, mainly in the aviation branch, and in the last decade CTI could strengthen and enlarge its position in the Chinese market. The confidence COMAC showed by placing the order, demonstrates again that CTI Systems is renowned as worldwide leading supplier in the aviation sector. With more than 50 years of experience, CTI provides a complete product range of highly effective systems for aircraft manufacturing, painting and servicing. CTI is especially known for its installations of teleplatform and crane systems at worldwide major airlines and MRO companies with a market share of more than 90%.
COMAC functions as the main vehicle in implementing large passenger aircraft programs in China. It is also mandated with the overall planning of developing trunk liner and regional jet programs and realizing the industrialization of civil aircraft in China.
Technical experts of COMAC recently paid a visit to CTI in Lentzweiler/Luxembourg for the factory acceptance test of one of the four teleplatforms. Actually, before leaving CTI's production facility, the sophisticated systems are assembled and tested in full working order. CTI’s equipment is designed and expected to meet high quality standards before it will be released for dispatch.
The teleplatform with a lifting height of 10800 mm and a working platform size of 6100 x 3550 mm was assembled in the test tower which was especially built for this purpose in 2005. Functional and operational checks on all components were carried out. Also the manufacturing quality was submitted for verification.
After nearly seven days of intensive examination, COMAC’s experts were visibly satisfied with the result and were impressed by CTI’s high level of engineering and manufacturing.

Module Segment Loader for production of Boeing 787 Dreamliner airplane
This special product is based on the CTI-Move technology and has full omnidirectional capabilities. The objective is to provide a means of transporting and installing aircraft floor board assemblies in an aircraft fuselage in the safest, most efficient and most reliable method. With a movement capability of 6 degrees of freedom and a positioning accuracy of 2 thousands of an inch, aircraft floor boards are installed in the cockpit section of Boeing 787.
The Module Segment Loader provides cell to cell transport and positioning of the load into the fuselage and several staging locations in the building. The control system provides all required motion and accessory control, operator inputs, system interfaces, and safeguards and protections.
The system was designed to meet all performance requirements under continuous usage, 24 hours per day; 7 days per week.
Technical features:
- The maximum travelling speed is 60 fpm ~ 18 meters / min.
- The weight capacity is 15000 lbs ~ 6800 kg
In the fuselage approach phases, longitudinal, lateral and yaw movements are achieved thanks to the omnidirectional capability of the four wheel drives. The vertical hoist movement is actuated hydraulically and has a lifting stroke of 165 inches ~ 4200 mm.
Longitudinal, lateral, vertical, pitch, and yaw fine positioning movements are ensured via high precision electrical cylinders. The roll fine axis is actuated hydraulically.
Video cameras and laser pointer systems are also included as guidance supports to the operator.
